The End of Privacy Wars?

This is more like the beginning than the end of the privacy wars, but an interesting news report about Avenue A settling all privacy related class action suits (state and federal) against it for $925,000 may indicate how one aspect of the privacy wars will play out.

At Digital ID World we tend to focus on technology and architectural solutions to privacy and security, because the problems can be (and we feel should be) dramatically reduced by such technology. But it is important to remember that some solutions will always be based on policy and the development of "standard industry practices" rather than technology. In this settlement the concept of having annual audits arises again, and we can expect this to become more common, especially as "standard industry practice" becomes more well defined.

So we can assume that lawsuits and settlements will likely be part of the identity conversation for some time to come yet...
